In fact, how the heck did a Minnsotan city girl end up living on a run down farm where the barn speaks? Well, in a nutshell: Shattered heart reborn through a cherry pie...and a donkey. True story. The shortie version. Pass it onto pie lovers, please.Katherine Dunn/Apifera Farmhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12992031770736061288noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3533835746733051649.post-73500006304010913242012-04-05T12:28:00.000-07:002014-04-28T16:59:41.342-07:00Aprons for Pino!
Pino and I love receiving your aprons - either vintage or hand made. The aprons are sold at Pino Pie Day and this year the apron sales help all the Misfits at Apifera - for vet care, meds, feed, hay and more shelter updates. We also set up a Museum of Misfits that has photos of all the animals we've taken on, their stories and bring awareness to other places we respect helping animals.

NOTE: After 2014 Pie Day, no more aprons will be collected. Pino wants a wardrobe change! Pino collected money to help Peaceful Valley Donkey Rescue in California transport abused donkeys to a permanent home in Texas, all the way from California. They have leased land, where the donkeys will remain free and safe, and cared for, forever. These donkeys have been abused, neglected and often abandoned to survive on their own.

Katherine took a shine to aprons when she moved to the farm - they hold
great stuff like eggs and hay twine, and she can wipe the runny nose of
an old goat at whim.

She also loves to make pie and share it, and
one day she took her little donkey, Pino, to a nearby farm, with pie -
of course clad in an old apron. It made quite an impression. She shared
the story with friends and little Pino started popping up in her art
with an apron too. Before you knew it, the donkey was getting aprons in
the mail - lots of them. So they decided to put them to good use.

Every
June, the aprons are strung along a big clothesline at the farm's
annual Pino Pie Day. Apron sales help other goat/donkey/barnyard
sanctuaries. Katherine's fresh homemade pie is served as are donkey
hugs. Her art and lavender are sold too. How did she start sharing fresh pie, her farm and her donkey? Read the short version.
